Due to circumstances, we are unable to adequately and safely produce this year's event.  Those that have registered will be contacted and offered refunds.

Depending on how we can gauge the possibility of producing a triathlon in 2013 this event may return in 2013.  Please check back!

Thanks everyone for a fantastic 11th Annual Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, August 7, 2011! We had good weather, calm seas, and fantastic racing!
The Sprint Tri was won by Chris Allen and Micki Hopkins. For results, go to the Results page on the left.  Pictures of the event are available on Rik Forschmiedt's web site.

The swim takes a triangular route in protected Quartermaster Harbor,  a half mile salt-water swim where most (but not all) wear wetsuits. The length is accurately measured by GPS. The course will be triangular, and counter-clockwise in 2011 to deal with an incoming tide in 2011 for the Sprint and near high tide for the Kids.

The bike leg is a clockwise tour of mid-island, 14.6 miles of rolling country roads.  There are two challenging uphill portions with accompanying dizzying downhill sections.

The run is 3.6 miles of gentle Burton Peninsula running - 2 counter-clockwise laps around the peninsula with small rolling hills.

The individual legs and transition times are kept track of with chip timing.

Congratulations to all of our contestants last year, you are Triathletes! Kids Events range from short legs to longer, depending on the age of the athlete.

If you have pictures, add them to our lists by emailing them to info@hotstriathlon.org.

We have cooperation with the Vashon Seals Swim Team, focusing on a series of Youth Events - all taking place on the rural Burton Peninsula.
The Heart of the Sound Triathlon is unique in the Seattle area - featuring a salt water swim.  The race start, transition and finish takes place at Jensen Point Park on the Burton Peninsula near Burton (mid-island).

Here are the distances for the events.  The Sprint Triathlon is $70 for an individual and $100 for a relay team (there is a late fee of $10 for entries past 7/15/12).  There is a $10 kids registration - the kids must have a parent present and willing to help out during the kids' event.  If you cannot be present during your child's event you must have a designated guardian present during the event (to keep the kids registration fee low we cannot offer t-shirts).

It is important for all participants to be familiar with the rules governing the sport that are promulgated by USA Triathlon (USAT).  Our Course Marshals will be checking for these violations, so before you touch your bike please click your helmet strap.  We will have bar end plugs at the start for those without; if you try to ride without them you will be pulled.  No throwing those gel packets away while riding - littering is a punishable offense. We are very sorry about the "no iPod/mp3" rule; athletes must be able to hear Course Marshal instructions as well as traffic (and 2-way radios are not allowed yet in USAT events, unlike the Grand Tours of bicycle racing).

If you are not a member of USAT, you must purchase a one-day license from USAT at registration for $12 ($5 for 17 and under).

Refund Policy: if you pre-register we will transfer your registration your registration to the next year's event; if you register on race day and withdraw prior to the event we will refund your entry fee.  We cannot transfer or refund a USAT membership fee.
