August 9, 2009 its all about the kids this year

Due to some financial problems encountered with last year's events, this year's event will not feature an adult Sprint Tri - but we plan on featuring a series of Youth Events - from a "splash-n-dash" for the youngest kids to a more structured USAT event for the older kids - all taking place on the rural Burton Peninsula.

Congratulations to all that participated in last year's events and conquered the swift incoming tide. To find out how you did, check the results by clicking here for overall results or by clicking here for age group results.

For the Kids Events, check out the results by clicking here.  Special congratulations go to the kids that rode especially far on the bike portion - you have now gone beyond your initial expectations and have proved your ability to deal with trouble and triumph over adversity.
We are planning informal "Kids Tri" events Sunday at 12 noon: $10 registration - the kids must have a parent present and willing to help out during the kids' event. If you cannot be present during your child's event you must have a designated guardian present during the event.

For the older kids we are planning a USAT sanctioned event that will be more serious - but not too!

The swim is a salt water swim (62 degrees).  The swim is followed by an open course bike ride and run of  gentle laps around the small, but quaint, Burton Peninsula.

It is important for all participants to be familiar with the rules governing the sport that are
promulgated by USA Triathlon (USAT).  For a quick review of the most commonly violated
rules, click here.  Our Course Marshals will be checking for these violations, so before you
touch your bike please click your helmet strap.  We will have bar end plugs at the start for
those without; if you try to ride without them you will be pulled.  No throwing those gel packets
away while riding - littering is a punishable offense. We are very sorry about the "no iPod/mp3"
rule; athletes must be able to hear Course Marshal instructions as well as traffic (and 2-way
radios are not allowed yet in USAT events, unlike the Grand Tours of bicycle racing).

If you are not a member of USAT, you must purchase a single-event permit from USAT at registration ($5 for 17 and under).
